Excursion
On Tuesday 8 September 2026 an one day excursion is planned for the conference participants to the village of Milies using the heritage railroad.
Seats are limited to the capacity of the train's coach, so please book early!
Price is €00, including lunch.
Schedule
- Gathering outside the city hall.
- Boarding the bus to transfer to Ano Lehonia station.
- Departure of train from Ano Lehonia station.
- Arrival at Ano Gatzea station.
- Departure from Ano Gatzea station.
- Arrival at Miles station.
- Watch —and help— the turn of the locomotive on the roundabout.
- Walk the path to the village square. Warning: this is an old and occasionally steep cobbled path. If you feel you cannot make it, we can drive you from the station to the square.
- Visit the church of Taxiarches to see the Zodiac and learn about the importance of its frescoes.
- Short concert by the South Pelion Choir.
- Lunch at a tavern on the village square.
- Visit the historical library of Milies to browse through old astronomy books.
- Return to Volos by bus (unless we persuade the train company to delay the departure of the train).
